An introduction to Colourwork Knitting – Where do I start?
Description:
Want to learn the basics of colourwork? This workshops covers all the basics and is full of tips and tricks to make your first (or second) foray into colour work go smoothly. Get confident with yarn management, prevent your yarns from twisting around each other, work with long floats, crack two-handed colourwork (hint: it’s faster!), and lots more. We’ll cover techniques for fair isle/stranded colour work, how to read charts, how to join in yarns seamlessly and how to fix mistakes, as well as discussing picking colours and swatching. It’s all there.
Techniques to be covered:
• Fair Isle/Stranded knitting with two colours knit flat (one-handed, two-
handed methods)
• Swiss darning (duplicate stitch)
Skills Needed:
• Students will need to know how to: knit, purl, cast on/off
Materials are not included so you will need to bring:
- 2x balls DK yarn (50g each) - two complementary but contrasting colours; helpful if have non-super wash wool content as this helps with the knitting, blocking and creating a 'smooth' colour work effec
- 4mm needles (or your preferred needles for working with DK yarn) - most people go UP a needle size when working colour work as they tend to knit it more tightly
- one size up and one size down from your preference - just in case (eg based on 4mm, 3.75mm and 4.5mm)
- Tapestry/wool needle
You will be entitled to a 10% discount on any materials for the class that you purchase on the day.
Please Note - Classes and groups will only run if at least four people have signed up.
